Pembrey signal box controlled the section of railway track between Burry Port and Kidwelly for 116 years (at the time of writing) but now like the age of steam for which it was initially designed it has been superseded by a 21st century digital system and the signal box is due to be demolished.

Pembrey Sands Air weapons range is an air-to-ground bombing and strafing practice area. It also has a unique feature in that it can provide a beach environment to enable crews to establish a Temporary Landing Zone, to practise natural surface operations.

May 1, 2021 · Time is fast running out for the last two outposts of mechanical signalling on the South Wales Main Line, with planned re-signalling of 35 route miles from Swansea to Whitland by September 2023 spelling an end to the semaphores at Ferryside and at Pembrey & Burry Port.

Nov 8, 2023 · The five semaphores remaining at Pembrey & Burry Port are controlled from what was once called Pembrey East Signal Box, a large Great Western Railway Type 7 box dating from 1907 with an 83-lever frame.

May 6, 2024 · In October 2023 our heritage group published an outstanding article on the signal box. There is postscript to the published article, in which there is a negative response from CADW to our request that the building be listed to avert demolition, which is the objective of Network Rail.

May 11, 2024 · Six months on from my last visit (November 2023) and it is time to take a day return trip to delightful Pembrey & Burry Port, in order to see if there has been any progress on the heavily-delayed re-signalling project called Port Talbot West 2 (PTW2).

Dec 8, 2023 · It's easy to get lost in Pembrey forest, especially at night, but numbered marker posts are now located at most path junctions. These, together with this map, should pinpoint your location and show you the best way out.

The maritime heritage of the area is best visited today by taking a walk along Cefn Sidan sands in Pembrey Country Park where you can see the remains of several wrecks, such as SV Paul which was stranded on the treacherous sands in the Burry inlet in 1925.

Pembrey and Burry Port railway station is a railway station on the West Wales Line serving Pembrey and Burry Port, in Carmarthenshire, Wales. It was opened by the broad gauge South Wales Railway on 11 October 1852 when that company extended its route from Landore (Swansea) to Carmarthen.
