Pembrey signal box controlled the section of railway track between Burry Port and Kidwelly for 116 years (at the time of writing) but now like the age of steam for which it was initially designed it has been superseded by a 21st century digital system and the signal box is due to be demolished.

Nov 8, 2023 · The five semaphores remaining at Pembrey & Burry Port are controlled from what was once called Pembrey East Signal Box, a large Great Western Railway Type 7 box dating from 1907 with an 83-lever frame.

May 6, 2024 · In October 2023 our heritage group published an outstanding article on the signal box. There is postscript to the published article, in which there is a negative response from CADW to our request that the building be listed to avert demolition, which is the objective of Network Rail.

The maritime heritage of the area is best visited today by taking a walk along Cefn Sidan sands in Pembrey Country Park where you can see the remains of several wrecks, such as SV Paul which was stranded on the treacherous sands in the Burry inlet in 1925.
