Pawa Meri is a documentary series of 6 x 26 min films about women leaders in PNG. Pawa Meri portrays strong female role models in PNG society. The films aim to challenge existing stereotypes about women and inspire young women to become leaders themselves.

The Centre for Social and Creative Media at the University of Goroka has embarked on an amazing project called Pawa Meri, which means ‘powerful woman’ in Tok Pisin. The project aims to portray willful female role models, challenge stereotypes and to inspire young women to become leaders.

This project aims at strengthening the PNG film industry by providing the opportunity for six Papua New Guinean women to each direct one of the Pawa Meri films. The assumption underpinning this is that Papua New Guinean women are best equipped to tell the stories of Papua New Guinean women.
