Jun 7, 2008 · Parker 61 has the same basic design of the 51 with its slip cap and hooded nib. To me the 61 looks and feels like a slightly smaller and slimmer version of the 51 but more modern looking and more comfortable in the hand.

Apr 13, 2024 · Parker also made the 61 out of cheaper plastic (which was not an improvement but probably helped the bottom line). Oh, and bits which cannot be easily replaced randomly fall off the pen. I own at least a dozen 61s, including some prototypes, but would much rather use a “51”.

This pen was, as I understand, intended to be the successor to the popular 51 and was released in 1956, just as ballpoints were starting their long conquest of quality writing. Due in part to this unfortunate timing, it never reached the popularity of its older brother.

Jul 28, 2008 · Otherwise, a 61 full of Washable Blue suits me to a tee (when it's loaded -- my 61 has been resting for several months now). I also use Quink Washable Blue in my standard "51" (not the desk pen, which stays loaded with Legal Lapis for check-writing) -- same reasoning.
