Es una fruta muy conocida en el Soconusco de Chiapas, este árbol en los primeros meses del año (enero a febrero) llega a perder todas sus hojas y pareciera que está a punto de morir, pero en mayo con las primeras lluvias rejuvenece y sus frutos empiezan a colmar las ramas.
