PANS is an acronym for Paediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome which encompasses PANDAS (Paediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disease Associated with Strep). The defining feature of this condition is its immediate onset.

PANS is a neuropsychiatric condition which is triggered by a misdirected immune response to a variety of triggers, resulting in a constellation of symptoms as outlined below. PANS is a clinical diagnosis and there is no specific test which will prove or disprove the condition.

PANS is NOT PANDAS. Paediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) is defined by the very acute-onset of . obsessive – compulsive disorder (OCD) or eating restrictions . and comorbid symptoms from at least . two of seven . categories: • anxiety (particularly separation anxiety) • emotional fluctuation or depression

May 18, 2023 · Paediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS) and Paediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome (PANS) are two related paediatric disorders that can have a profound impact on a child's life.

The aim is to help members provide care based on the most accurate and up to date evidence for children with acute neuropsychiatric presentations, including where Paediatric Acute Neuro-Psychiatric Syndrome (PANS) and Paediatric Acute Neuro-Psychiatric Syndrome associated with Streptococcal Infection (PANDAS) are considered.

Paediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcus. Dr Tim Ubhi and The Children's e-Hospital have been at the frontline of promoting PANDAS as a recognised condition that affects children in the UK and across the world.

PANS is a clinically heterogenous disorder with a number of aetiologies and disease mechanisms, presenting with: unusually abrupt onset obsessive compulsive disorder or severe eating restrictions, with at least two concomitant cognitive, behavioural, or neurological symptoms.

PANS/PANDAS syndrome. The aim of this consensus statement is to provide a UK focussed document to support British Paediatric Neurology Association (BPNA) members to provide best evidenced care when reviewing a child with acute neuropsychiatric presentations, including suspected PANS/PANDAS.
