Phase Alternating Line (PAL) is a color encoding system for analog television. It was one of three major analogue colour television standards, the others being NTSC and SECAM. In most countries it was broadcast at 625 lines, 50 fields (25 frames) per second, and associated with CCIR analogue broadcast television systems B, D, G, H, I or K.

While NTSC delivers a frame rate of 30 frames per second (fps) at an aspect ratio of 720x480, PAL uses a frame rate of 25 fps and a 720x576 aspect ratio. The PAL system offers automated color correction compared to NTSC's manual color correction.

The process for converting film to PAL is called '4% speedup' and the process for converting film to NTSC is called '3:2 pulldown'. So one of the advantages of shooting 24fps is you are safe for online and cinemas, and have the least painful workflows to go to both PAL and NTSC.

PAL is: 50 half-frames per second (25 interlaced) 720 x 576 non-square (!) pixels etc. I would suggest removing the "PAL" and "NTSC" qualifiers which are irrelevant here, and which are only used for DVDs now.
