Nov 14, 2001 · From my own brainstorming, I would've thought you'd dye the top yellow and then spray the burst, but this is probably not how they did it back then. I've also heard that they may have used a nitro "wash coat" to cover the entire guitar and then pore fill, spray the yellow, burst, and nitro clear-coat.
