IMO the best are bottom dwellers that will gladly live off the mess the pacu makes when eating. loaches, catfish, polypterus, ropefish etc. you can see from my sigi, my pacu are kept with some extremely nasty fish, and some easy going ones. they very easily hold their own when the time comes.

Jun 13, 2006 · I believe some Pacu are bred commercially in ponds for aquaculture purposes in SA however their mature size would likely make breeding them in an average tank about as likely as a pig fly past me on my way to work tomorrow. However some people do have 12 foot long six foot wide tanks so i'm not saying its impossible just improbable.

Mar 1, 2025 · Pacu are definitely not a fish for most people to keep. They can get VERY large - 3 - 4', with redbelly pacus being shorter in length than black pacu when full grown. Pacu are long-lived fish that can live 30+ years when kept in the right environment. They also can suddenly die at 2 years of age when kept in poor conditions.
