One of the best ways to diagnose a fault on the PS3 is using the syscon tools. Some consoles do not support full Syscon (check here). Even if full syscon does not work, you can do the Putty steps below to at least read out some basic error codes.

RxD should be connected to the TX pin on the USB serial converter. TxD to the RX pin, Ground to Ground, and leave DIAG unconnected for now. The metal shield around the motherboard, or the copper edges can be used as Ground. Your converter needs to be set to 3.3V mode, otherwise you could seriously damage the console.

Sep 28, 2022 · Hey all, TL;DR - CECHL PS3 got YLOD a few months back after eraser mod. Didn't know about SYSCON on VER-001, so just changed half of the NEC/TOKINs on CELL and RSX. Still YLOD, read SYSCON and it's error A0203010. Please suggest route forward. So I have a CECHL04 PS3 that has a YLOD.
