Dec 25, 2024 · The C425 was Alco's third four-axle road switcher and was essentially a slightly upgraded version of the C424. As John Kirkland points out in his book, "The Diesel Builders: Volume Two," it appears this model was built specifically upon request from the Erie Lackawanna.

May 2, 2023 · Speaking of the used locomotive market, the C425 out sold the 2400-hp century by nearly two-to-one even though production of the more powerful model was close to 50 percent less. #1280 (ex-PRR 2439) at Grayling, Michigan on 18 October 1990. Since the ICC had mandated PRR control of the New Haven, the Lehigh & Hudson River was included to provide for a direct PRR New Haven freight connection via Maybrook, ny and the Poughkeepsie Bridge. The New Haven was merged in 1969, the N&W in 1972, and Dereco and the L&HR in 1976........

Conrail Alco C-425 5075 rests in the former-EL yard at Youngstown, Ohio. On 12-05-79 this same unit had been shut down and deadlined with all other ALCo's in the area. This unit is the former CR 2441, one of only a handful to operate with its new 5000+ series number, and even then only for a few weeks.
