A long response in the Trainorders discussion of Caprotti valve gear include PRR engineer John Roller's method for dealing with wheel slip: "[H]e could control the PRR T1's slipperiness by letting the T1 boiler pressure come way down during station stops, helped by the injector.

Jun 20, 2020 · The PRR T1 was a duplex locomotive that utilized a 4-4-4-4 wheel arrangement and was designed to haul 880 trailing tons (798-t) at 100 mph (161 km/h). PRR envisioned using the engines to haul express passenger trains on the 713-mile (1,147-km) route between Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Chicago, Illinois.

With newly built-in Pennsy features, this new loco soon took on the PRR looks. Solid Drop Coupler Pilot, Pennsy Style Tender, Oval Cab windows similar to the PRR T1 4-4-4-4 Class, etc. were features this new J1 class took on.

Apr 19, 2021 · PRR #5518 and a sister T1 get a passenger train heavy with head end cars underway. Date and location unknown, but the fact that #5518 has had some of her streamlining removed indicates that this is later in the big Duplexes lives.
