Constructed in 1888 at the PRR's own Altoona Shops. Having fun with the wide angle up top! The Pennsylvania Railroad’s Class R (later H3) steam locomotives became the primary mainline freight locomotive. The Altoona Shops built more than 825 between 1885 and 1898.

PRR 1187 is one of two locomotives at the museum carrying that number. The other is Reading 0-4-0 1187. This 1187 was built by the Pennsylvania Railroad in its Altoona Shops in 1888.

Sep 6, 2008 · Penn Central own the PRR collection located at North Thuberlin round house, They donated the collection to the railroad Museum Of Pennsylvania in the late 1960's. 1187 was one of thoses's locomotive's.

Pennsylvania Railroad 1187 (2-8-0) The 1187 was built by the Pennsylvania Railroad in their Altoona shops in 1888. This class H3 locomotive and its sisters were the first PRR production locomotives to have the famous Belpaire firebox.
