Dec 5, 2005 · Greeting velvet, I plumbed for years, a couple years go we bought two places in which the old pre-pex , that gray junk, was installed. Doing repairs I used Pex and decided on the Shark bite type of fittings. Even with the gas line. it was scary, now I kinda like it. With the Shark bite fittings you don't need the crimping tool. Does that help?

My main experience has been with Wirsbo and I own their tool (thankfully purchased at a fraction of new cost from a retiring plumber). I am seriously considering PEX for new propane lines in connection with the W.H. project.

Oct 25, 2017 · -Know your heat demand at the point of use do you know how many BTUs need to move through the pipe.-Water holds only so many BTUs-You can only push so many BTUs through a given diameter size of PEX.-Pipe length and all the fittings also have a head pressure affect and need calculated as part of what you need when sizing a pump.

Dec 5, 2005 · I had to remove some 3/4" crimps this weekend and it was a total PITA. The copper rings come off easy. Getting the pex off of the fitting so that you can reuse the fitting is a huge PITA. These fittings had been crimped for a few months. The pex really grabs the ridges and wants to stay put.

Nov 21, 2007 · I just got 100' of 1" pex al pex today that i bought of ebay. The seller told me that shark bite fittings would work with it. Come to find out they dont, the pex al pex is to big. I bought a bunch of 1" shark-bite fittings at a pretty good discount, but it seems I wont be able to use them.

Oct 15, 2009 · Never used pex for underground water supply but I would think it should be OK. I know of 1,000's of feet of black poly my dad put in the ground, some 40 years ago with no problems... 160 or 200 psi test... not the cheap stuff. He always covered the pipe a few inches by hand to avoid rocks cutting the pipe over time.

Jun 4, 2008 · "Shark bite" style fittings, or push-on fittings, even sold at big box stores, will fit most PEX. The exception here is pex-al-pex, which is PEX with an aluminum sheathing, which is thencoated in another thin layer of plastic. Viega Fostapex is a good example of this. The advantage of PEX-AL-PEX is that it is more rigid and requires less anchoring.

Jan 3, 2015 · For the four (4) critical fittings of our Uponor pex underground lines we used Uponor barbed brass fittings with the compression collar. Didn't want to worry about trimming lines as the result of a failed fitting. When we purchased the 1 1/4" pex the plumbing supply house loaned us the expansion tool free.
