Electron shell - Wikipedia
In chemistry and atomic physics, an electron shell may be thought of as an orbit that electrons follow around an atom 's nucleus. The closest shell to the nucleus is called the "1 shell" (also called the "K shell"), followed by the "2 shell" (or "L shell"), then the "3 shell" (or "M shell"), and so on further and further from the nucleus.

3.7: Electrons and Valence Shells - Chemistry LibreTexts
Jul 20, 2023 · Subshells are designated by the letters s, p, d, and f. The s subshell is spherical in shape and has one orbital. Principal shell 1n has only a single s orbital, which can hold two electrons. Principal shell 2n has one s and one p subshell, and can hold a total of eight electrons.
Shells and Subshells - A-Level Chemistry - Revision Science
There are 4 subshells, s, p, d, and f. Each subshell can hold a different number of electrons. The n number determines how many of the subshells make up the shell. For example, the 1st shell is made up of 1 subshell, s. It can therefore contain only 2 electrons. The 2nd shell is made up of 2 subshells, s and p.

P shell: Definition
A P shell is a dumbbell shaped shell in three axis creating 3 shells that can hold 6 electrons in 3 pairs
Electron Shells - ChemTalk
In very simple terms an electron shell is the outside part of an atom that surrounds the atomic nucleus. The shells are orbital paths that are followed by electrons around the nucleus. Like everything in chemistry, electrons like to follow the path of least resistance.
Electron Shells, SubShells, and Orbitals - Newton Desk
Every shell is divided into sub shell, Where K, L, M, N are main shells, while s, p, d, f are sub shells. Maximum number of electron calculation: Formula: Maximum number of electrons in a shell= 2n2. A sub-orbit is a sub division of electron shell (orbit) separated by electron orbitals. Sub-orbit also known as sub shells or sub energy level.
SUBSHELLS: Within a SHELL, electrons may move in different ways around the nucleus! These different "paths" are called SUBSHELLS - SHAPES of regions of space that electrons are able to exist in. "s" subshell (a spherical region) "p" subshell (a dumbbell shaped region) "d" subshell - Some atoms also have "f" subshells (not pictured)
How Many Valence Electrons Does Phosphorus (P) Have?
The electron configuration of the phosphorus shows that there are two electrons in the K shell, eight in the L shell, and five in the M shell(orbit). That is, the first shell of phosphorus(P) has two electrons, the second shell has eight electrons and the 3rd shell has five electrons.
