Established in 1986 by Dr. Biruté Mary Galdikas, OFI supports the conservation, protection, and understanding of orangutans and their rainforest habitat in Borneo, while caring for and rehabilitating ex-captive orangutans for release back into the wild.

Orangutans and chimpanzees are endangered species and the Center for Great Apes is the only accredited orangutan sanctuary in the nation. We invite you to meet the apes, learn their stories and find out how you can help us in our vital mission.

The Orangutan Conservancy (OC) is dedicated to the protection of orangutans in their natural habitat through wild research, capacity building, education and public awareness programs, and by supporting numerous on-the-ground efforts to save Southeast Asia’s only great ape.

Mar 30, 2025 · Orangutan Outreach’s mission is to protect orangutans in their native forests of Borneo and Sumatra while providing care for orphaned and displaced orangutans until they can be returned to their natural environment.

In the midst of the tropical forest surroundings, the chimpanzees and orangutans each live and play in one of the twelve large three-story high domed enclosures. The largest of these outdoor living areas are from 50- to 80-feet long and 34-feet tall.

Rescue, rehabilitating and releasing orangutans is no easy feat, it requires a hugely skilled and dedicated team. The footage we’ve captured speaks for itself.

We are curr­ently caring for over 400 rescued, orphaned, and confis­cated oran­gutans in two rescue centers. We are prepa­ring them for a life in the wild. However, their journey to freedom is as diverse as the fates of the animals that come to us. Oran­gutans are the last great apes of Asia.

Located in the village of Pasir Panjang, near Tanjung Puting National Park, the OCCQ was created for confiscated ex-captive orangutans needing medical and other care as well as forest experience in preparation for their release into the wild.

Orangutan Foundation was founded in 1990 and is saving the critically endangered orangutan by protecting their tropical forest habitat. It rescues and releases orangutans back into the wild.
