3 days ago · Tenzan-no-yu Onsen is a huge bath and spa complex on the west side of Kyoto. It’s one of the few onsen in Kyoto and it’s well worth the trek across town to relax here. Located in western Kyoto, a short distance before you get to Arashiyama, Tenzan-no-yu is an actual onsen (natural hot spring bath).

The location of this onsen is about 4 stops from Arashiyama Station (Keifuku Electric Rail, where it has foot onsen in the station), to Kyoto direction. It took me about 5 mins walk from the Arisugawa (有栖川) station.

The presence of an onsen is often indicated on signs and maps by the symbol ♨, the kanji 湯 (yu, meaning "hot water"), or the simpler phonetic hiragana character ゆ (yu).

Fu-Fu no Yu is kind of a hidden gem. On the other side of the Togetsu-kyo bridge from the shrines and bamboo grove, it sees more Japanese visitors than Westerners. The entry fee is reasonable, and, as it isn't affiliated with any onsen, you can basically stay all day.
