Mar 24, 2025 · While previous studies have highlighted the importance of Olig2 in regulating the spinal cord (Zhou and Anderson, 2002; Sagner et al., 2018; Ohayon et al., 2019; Ohayon et al., 2021) and corpus callosum astrocyte development (Cai et al., 2007), the role of Olig1 in astrocyte maturation remains poorly understood.

The transcription factor Olig2 binds oligodendrocyte enhancers in precursor cells. The resulting Olig2 “prepattern” directs the binding of the chromatin-remodeling complex Brg1, which initiates and promotes oligodendrocyte differentiation.
