The Zabur (Arabic: ٱلزَّبُورِ, romanized: az-zabūr) is, according to Islam, the holy book of Dawud (David in Islam), one of the holy books revealed by Allah before the Quran, alongside others such as the Tawrāh (Torah) and the Injīl (Gospel).

The Ancient South Arabian script (Old South Arabian: 𐩣𐩯𐩬𐩵 ms 3 nd; modern Arabic: الْمُسْنَد musnad) branched from the Proto-Sinaitic script in about the late 2nd millennium BCE.

The Holy Zabur is a collection of ancient hymns and spiritual songs. They were originally written to be sung, not just to be recited or read. The Zabur was the worship book used in Sulayman’s Holy House in Jerusalem. Often it is called Dawud’s Zabur (or the Psalms of David).

Zabur (Psalms) not only referred to the book with that name, but at one time was also a title for the Kethubim or third division of the Hebrew Bible. It is highly possible that it was still commonly used that way by Jews contemporary to the prophet Muhammad (pbuh).

Muslims believe that the Zabur was a divine scripture given specifically to Prophet Dawud (David), peace be upon him, as guidance and a message of wisdom.

Said ibn Jubair and Mujaiyid explained the word zabur to mean all inspired books, and that by zikr was meant the Preserved Tablet (al-Lauhu 'l-Mahfuz). Ibn `Abbas and az-Zahhak said by zabur was meant the Taurat, and by zikr those books which came after.
