"Old" Spock is from the original televised series (The Original Series, TOS) which aired from 1966 to 1969. He appeared in six movies following TOS and also made an appearance in The Next Generation (Unification I & II). As Old Spock explained to James Kirk in the 2009 movie, he was thrown back in time along with Nero and his ship, the Narada.

Maybe in New Trek time travel is a nice and tidy method for sandboxing the reboot, but he left from the Old Universe -- and it's pretty clear that it's tantamount to Control-Z in Old Trek.

Dec 14, 2017 · Spock Prime died, presumably, of old age. When Spock Prime died on New Vulcan, he would have been approximately 162 years old. Sarek, Spock's father, was considered to be middle-aged at 102 (TOS) and very old at 203 (TNG). Using this as a scale, we can assume that 162 for a Vulcan would be roughly 80-ish for a human.

Kirk arrived there by sheer accident, it simply being the most convenient place for Young Spock to drop him off when he exiled him. So, yes, Young Spock just happened to drop Kirk off on the same planet Old Spock was on, and Kirk just happened to land close enough, and just happened to walk in the right direction, for the two to meet. Made even more different when Spock loses Vulcan and parents at beginning of career via time paradox events. And do not forget that the "Old Spock" of this universe was only very similar to the original storyline "old Spock".
