Sarek was a male Vulcan from the planet Vulcan. He spent most of his life in service of the Vulcan people, as an ambassador and representative on the Federation Council.

Sarek / ˈ s ær ɛ k / is a fictional character in the Star Trek media franchise. He is a Vulcan astrophysicist, the Vulcan ambassador to the United Federation of Planets, and father of Spock. The character was originally played by Mark Lenard in the episode "Journey to Babel" in 1967.

He originated the character of Sarek in the second-season episode "Journey to Babel" (1967), and provided the voice of Sarek in the Star Trek: The Animated Series episode "Yesteryear" (1973).

S'chn T'gai Sarek, son of Skon and T'Rama, was born in the city of ShiKahr, Sas-a-Shar on Vulcan on 18 June 2165. Sarek's name was a cognate of the name Surak used by the Vulcan nation that had launched the nuclear weapon responsible for Surak's death, and whom Surak had forgiven in his final days.

Sarek refused to speak to Spock for nearly twenty years after Spock chose to attend Starfleet Academy instead of the Vulcan Science Academy and pursued a career in Starfleet. Born in 2166 , Sarek was precisely 102.437 years old at the time of the Babel Conference on Stardate 3842.3 .
