Aug 17, 2011 · The Kato HO scale NW2 was introduced about 1993, and Jim Hediger reviewed it in the February 1994 Model Railroader. It’s an excellent runner, very quiet and smooth, and with good power for its size.

I have a 20+ year old Kato HO NW2, and this thing has a huge 2 piece weight inside it, which clamshells around the motor and drive shafts. Did Kato ever revise this design to be more DCC friendly?

The EMD NW2 is a 1,000 hp (750 kW), B-B switcher locomotive manufactured by General Motors Electro-Motive Division of La Grange, Illinois. The NW2 was manufactured from February 1939 to December 1949, and 1145 were produced – 1121 for the U.S., and 24 were exported to Canada.
