Jan 7, 2023 · What are Old English Roses? The roses referred to as English roses are often called Austin roses or David Austin roses. These rose bushes were introduced around 1969 with the introduction of rose bushes named Wife of Bath and Canterbury.

It was these roses that played a key part in the development of David Austin’s English Roses. The true Old Roses consist of the Gallicas, Damasks, Albas, Centifolias and Mosses. Although they only flower during the early summer, with one or two exceptions, they give a magnificent display.

More upright in growth than many English Roses, and mostly thorn-free, Wollerton Old Hall produces an abundance of flowers over a long blooming season. Introduced by David Austin in 2011, this fabulous rose should be positioned where its strong scent can be easily appreciated!
