Molecular regulation of oil gland development and biosynthesis …
Feb 8, 2024 · We report a molecular framework that governs the development of Citrus oil glands, which was uncovered through the combined utilization of the Citrus thorn system and a naturally occurring glandless kumquat mutant.
The shape of aroma: Measuring and modeling citrus oil gland ...
Sep 21, 2022 · Citrus shape impacts oil gland abundance and distribution, as the shape of the rind, the exocarp, and other tissues, along the distribution of the oil glands, affect the physics of citrus essential oil extraction and aroma dispersion (Smith et al., 2018).
Citrus Essential Oils in Aromatherapy: Therapeutic Effects and ...
Essential oils (EOs) are aromatic compounds found in significant quantities in oil sacs or oil glands present in the leaves, flowers, and fruit peels (mainly the flavedo part). Citrus EO is a complex mixture of ~400 compounds and has been found to be useful in aromatic infusions for personal health care, perfumes, pharmaceuticals, color ...
Guardians of the fragrance: Uncovering the genetics behind citrus oil ...
May 13, 2024 · The colorful, nutrient-rich peels of citrus fruits have long been valued for their tangy flavors and aromatic oils. These oils are produced and stored in special secretory structures called oil glands, which are prevalent across citrus varieties (Knight et al., 2001).
Citrus oil gland - University of Texas at Austin
Probably everyone is familiar with the large oil pockets in the peels of oranges and lemons and other citrus fruits. The petals of citrus flowers also have oil glands, although they are smaller than those of the peels, and fit into a micrograph more easily.
Within the Rutaceae family, secretory cavities are a notable trait and are commonly referred to as oil glands in Citrus plants. These oil glands are present in various above-ground parts of Citrus plants, with a noteworthy con-centration in the pigmented pericarp region of the fruits (fig. S1).
These oils are pro-duced and stored in special secretory structures called oil glands, which are prevalent across citrus varieties (Knight et al., 2001).
