Samuel Boaz Brown [1] (born October 15, 1983) is an American and Cherokee political candidate and military officer. He served in the United States Army during the War in Afghanistan, and sustained burns to thirty percent of his body due to an improvised explosive device injury in 2008.

The Sam Browne belt is a leather belt with a supporting strap that passes over the right shoulder, worn by military and police officers. It is named after Sir Samuel J. Browne (1824–1901), the British Indian Army general who invented it.

The Sam Browne Belt may be worn by officers at ceremonies, parades, honor guards, and reviews when the sword is prescribed, or at such times as are deemed appropriate by the commander.

Unless on field duty, most officers wore a single strap Sam Browne. The Sam Browne began to disappear as a part of the Army officer uniform in the late 1930s and was no longer a common sight in 1941, when the Army issued an officer uniform coat with a cloth belt.

As a field equipment, the Sam Browne Belt was manufactured in brown leather, though one Victorian photograph shows a large group of officers, on campaign in Egypt and all have the whole set in buff leather. After the Pistol Case and Ammunition Pouch were made obsolete, the equipment became Ceremonial, comprising only Belt, Brace and Frog.
