The selection of the correct Octalink BB of several choices within the same model number can be tricky, but the specific crankset and a couple parameters of the bike provide the info to select the correct one.

Feb 26, 2012 · The Hollowtech and Octalink systems are different because you need to match the crankset to the bottom bracket, that is, you cannot use the BB from one system with the crankset from other system. But any of the bottom brackets can be installed in the same type of frame (the "default"/ISO 68mm wide, 1.37in diameter, 24 TPI). Hope it helps

Jul 13, 2020 · Basically, Octalink is an improved square-taper-style cartridge BB that uses a hollow spindle with splined ends rather than a solid spindle with square taper ends. Argenti is referring to Hollowtech II, but confusingly an Octalink BB/crankset would be yet another option to install in place of your square taper BB/crankset.

Octalink was a major failure, its left crank arm loosened and the bearings had so little space the bottom bracket fails early. Hollowtech II fixes the problems of Octalink. The 2x11 vs 9-speed chain could maybe be an issue.
