There are three ways we can establish an OAL for rifles. First is the max length that will feed and function through the magazine OR go by factory length - that's the SAAMI standard length.

I have also tried the Hornady OAL gauge but the brass was not sized and wouldn't fit in the chamber ( brass far to big) and when my father-in-law tried to size it, it crushed the case...

Jul 19, 2022 · Guys I have a newly rebarreled 243 Mauser action with a McGowan barrel when I check the OAL of a case and 100 grain Interlock it comes out to 2.745 to the lands but the book says max OAL should be 2.630. I`m guessing I can back off to 2.720 and get ,020 off the lands. The bolt closes easily at 2.745.

Nov 9, 2013 · Note that the OAL listed in a reloading manual might be for a different bullet than you are shooting. I shoot 300 gr pills in my 338LM and there is a huge difference in ogive vs lands between a Lapua Scenar, a Berger OTM, and a SMK at the same OAL.
