It's an inclusive city with unique art districts, diverse entertainment, miles of trails, riverfront attractions, world class museums, multiple street festivals, excellent restaurants, revitalized city neighborhoods . . . but its flag is uninspired.

To be clear, the OKC Flag Project is not critical of the Oklahoma City Seal. We are just of the belief that a flag should be something more than a city seal on a white flag. Curious to know what the seal represents?

Jul 29, 1994 · The new flag is white with a City of Oklahoma City seal in its center. Mayor Ron Norick and others have said the new flag is needed because Oklahoma City's current flag wasn't remarkable enough to be instantly recognized.

Q: Wait, we have a flag? A: Yes, Oklahoma City has an official flag. It is white with the city seal in the center. Q: What is wrong with our current flag? A: The flag represents the government rather than the people. It is not unique and does not evoke civic pride like a flag should.

The current Oklahoma City flag is the City seal on a white field. While it incorporates great color and meaningful imagery, the seal is unrecognizable from afar, leading the flag to look like a red and blue circle on a white field.

The 5-pointed white star within the red shield is modeled on the 5-pointed star which appears on the Seal of the State of Oklahoma; the intention here is that because Oklahoma City is the capital of Oklahoma, the OKC flag should have an element which pays homage to the state as a whole.
