In such situations, there is a principle: fix one coordination, and report the different one. For example, N6xc7, as shown in the photo posted above. N8xc7 or N6xc7. Use descriptive notation instead. That way you can specify if QktxP or KktxP. (This is a joke)

Sep 9, 2023 · Your notation is wrong, exd2 would indicate that the e-pawn *takes* on d2, while Nxc7 would mean the Knight *takes* on c7. The correct notation is just d2 and Nc7.

May 24, 2015 · I think the idea is that if you play Nxc7 immediately, you will lose the knight on d4, Rb1 forces the queen to move somewhere where it can't capture that piece. Then, rather than losing a full rook, the computer prefers to trade the queen for 2 knights.

An illegal move? Not talking about nxc7 this move is legal. The move you probably played is illegal. Edit: Explanation as I got downvotes. OP said he wants to play Nxc7 (illegal move). But he played a different move called en passant (which is illegal for me as I am below 1000). So I switched the "legal" move (crossiant) and illegal move (nxc7).
