NOX4 - Wikipedia
NADPH oxidase 4 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the NOX4 gene, and is a member of the NOX family of NADPH oxidases. [5] Oxygen sensing is essential for homeostasis in all aerobic organisms.
Nox4: A Hydrogen Peroxide-Generating Oxygen Sensor - PMC
Nox4 is an oddity among members of the Nox family of NADPH oxidases [seven isoenzymes that generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) from molecular oxygen] in that it is constitutively active. All other Nox enzymes except for Nox4 require upstream ...
NADPH oxidase 4 (Nox4) is a major source of oxidative stress in …
Aug 31, 2010 · These results suggest that Nox4 in cardiac myocytes is a major source of mitochondrial oxidative stress, thereby mediating mitochondrial and cardiac dysfunction during PO. NAD (P)H oxidases (Noxs) produce O (2) (-) and play an important role in cardiovascular pathophysiology.
The human Nox4: gene, structure, physiological function and ...
This article explores the experimental studies related to the gene, structure, physiological function and pathological significance of Nox4. As Nox4 might serve as a potential target for the therapy of cardiovascular diseases and cancer, the Nox4 inhibitor is also discussed in this article.
Nox4: From Discovery to Pathophysiology | SpringerLink
Jun 23, 2023 · Nox4, originally termed Renox, was discovered in 2000. Since that time, our understanding of its structure and function has expanded enormously. Nox4 is ubiquitously expressed and is regulated at multiple levels, including epigenetic modification, transcriptional...
From form to function: the role of Nox4 in the cardiovascular system
A central role for Nox4 in the regulation of vascular cell function and cardiovascular disease. FORM: Nox4 spans the membrane six times and produces hydrogen peroxide constitutively due to a histidine residue in the last transmembrane loop (E-loop). These enzymatic properties influence the FUNCTION of the cell via various signaling intermediaries.

Mar 30, 2025 · NOX4 (NADPH Oxidase 4) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with NOX4 include Ureteral Obstruction and Asbestosis. Among its related pathways are FLT3 signaling in disease and Alzheimer's disease and miRNA effects. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include nucleotide binding and heme binding.
Nox4: a hydrogen peroxide-generating oxygen sensor - PubMed
Aug 12, 2014 · Critically, Nox4 has an unusually high Km for oxygen (∼18%), similar to the values of known oxygen-sensing enzymes, compared with a Km of 2-3% for Nox2, the phagocyte NADPH oxidase. This allows Nox4 to generate H₂O₂ as a function of oxygen concentration throughout a physiological range of pO2 values and to respond rapidly to changes in pO₂.
NOX4 - an overview | ScienceDirect Topics
NOX4 encodes an NADPH oxidase, which produces reactive oxygen species (such as superoxide) by transferring electrons from NADPH to molecular oxygen. You might find these chapters and articles relevant to this topic. NOX4 is probably the …
NOX4 functions as a mitochondrial energetic sensor coupling …
Oct 19, 2017 · Here we identify an ATP-binding motif within the NADPH oxidase isoform, NOX4, and show that ATP directly binds and negatively regulates NOX4 activity. We find that NOX4 localizes to the inner...
