Tranquility, also known as Node 3, [1] is a module of the International Space Station (ISS). It contains environmental control systems, life support systems , a toilet, exercise equipment, and an observation cupola .

Two water loops (low-temperature and moderate-temperature loops) remove the heat generated inside the Node to the ISS ammonia lines via two heat exchangers on the outside of one end cone. Node-3 can be considered in two parts. One half has a single docking port on an end cone for docking to the ISS.

For launch, five of the eight rack locations in Node-3 will be taken up with two avionics racks and three racks containing pallets with equipment and cargo for the ISS. The three other locations are empty. In its final on-orbit configuration, Node-3 will look slightly different.

Node-3, or ‘Tranquility’ as it has now been named, is the final major element of the barter agreement between ESA and NASA under which ESA supplied Node-2 and -3 and high-technology laboratory equipment and services to NASA in return for launching Europe’s Columbus laboratory to the ISS in February 2008.

Node 3 will also have a Cupola attached to it with a Robotic Work Station inside it to assist in the assembly/maintenance of the ISS as well as offer a window for Earth observations. Node 3 was launched with the Cupola attached to the nadir port.
