It can only be mined with a Diamond pickaxe or Netherite pickaxe. Ancient Debris is smelted into Netherite Scrap, and you need 4 Netherite Scrap + 4 Gold Ingots to craft 1 Netherite Ingot. But, because 4 Ancient Debris are required to make 1 Netherrite Ingot, it increases the difficulty to obtain the armor/tools over Diamond by about 4x.

The netherite and diamonds aren't difficult to acquire if you dig/tnt at the right y level. The template can be acquired easily enough if you break into a bastion remnant from the top and use a bucket of lava to kill the pigmen without aggroing them.

May 28, 2022 · Brew three potions of netherite sight with that, made a charm out of them and went on a "x-ray" hunt around ~y10-15. Very easy to get a stack or two of ancient debris that way. Used Mekanism to double the netherite scraps from the debris. And got enough for bees to breed and pollinate from a block of netherite.

Not only that, but the extra durability netherite gear has is negligible, and it's not significantly faster. Any blocks that were mineable in 8gt are still 8gt to mine, with or without a beacon. Make a netherite axe or sword instead, the extra damage is more useful. It's okay for armor, mostly for the added knockback resistance.
