NEON samples are physical objects collected or measured and tracked over time. Most samples are collected and held in possession, but some samples remain in the field, such as trees and live mammals. Some samples are discarded after analysis, such as surface water samples, and some samples may be archived, such as beetles.

This data product contains the quality-controlled, native sampling resolution data from NEON's aquatic macroinvertebrate collection and field metadata, as well as associated taxonomic, morphometric, and count analyses data provided by a contracted lab.

NEON AOP Field Spectral Data are collected using a field-spectrometer and leaf clip to observe leaf-level reflectance spectra within two-weeks of AOP overpass. Some field spectral observations will be collected from samples that are also used to develop the foliar chemistry data product.
