Dec 27, 2024 · The Officer Aptitude Rating (OAR) test is a subset of the larger Aviation Standard Test Battery (ASTB-E) used by the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. Your scores on this test will be used to decide whether you qualify for officer training.

The OAR is simply one part of the ASTB-E. The full ASTB-E is only needed for Pilots and NFOs (to the best of my knowledge), while a competitive OAR score is required for practically every other officer career. The OAR is broken up into three parts: math skills, reading comprehension, and mechanical comprehension.

Every Sailor in the U.S. Navy must have and utilize their LaDRs (OPNAVINST 1500.77). LaDR documents can be combined, covering all the paygrades in a rating, or paygrade-specific within a rating. Occupational and Readiness Standards (OaRS) are provided as a section within the E1/E2/E3 LaDRs.
