Northern Alberta Railways (reporting mark NAR) was a Canadian railway which served northern Alberta and northeastern British Columbia. Jointly owned by both Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Railway , NAR existed as a separate company from 1929 until 1981.

Mar 25, 2022 · The GP9 was available with all of the fuel tank, steam generator, and dynamic brake options as the GP7, including “torpedo tube” air tanks mounted on the roof. Many railroads chose to rebuild their GP7s and GP9s for continued service.

The paint scheme depicted here was in use from 1965-1975. The road was jointly owned by CP and CN until 1981, when CN bought out CPs share of ownership. NAR GP9s could be found leading both freight and (with the help of a steam generator car) passenger trains.

Feb 11, 2022 · I didn't know there were units with safety striping from NAR. I guess it's obvious my N scale GP9s don't have correct handrails, but I'm not sure it's worth it to go that distance in N scale. I do have bells and horns that I plan to add, at least.
