The pka of water and H 3O+ have been experimentally determined to be 14.0 and 0.0, respectively. Earlier values of 15.7 and –1.74, respectively are erroneous numbers proposed by scientists who made some errors in the calculated “rational” values. See: 1) Helv. Chim. Acta 2014, 97, 1. and 2) J. Chem. Educ. 2017, 94, 690.
weaker (pKa . 30) base than the dialkylamides above. Used where a delicate touch is needed (e.g. for enolate alkylation when halide is part of the molecule[3]) and where hydride reduction occurs with LDA. LiHMDS will give the thermodynamic enolate under appropriate conditions. Chiral Amide Bases.
Common Solvents Used in Organic Chemistry: Table of Properties
Aug 9, 2020 · Notes: In 2005, this table was adapted by Dr. Brian J. Myers, Webmaster of ACS Division of Organic Division (DOC) from: Professor Murov's Organic solvent table. The values were obtained from the CRC (87th edition), or Vogel's Practical Organic Chemistry (5th ed.).; Solubilities are in water and are reported as grams solvent/100 grams water.
