Apr 2, 2020 · I can retire my current 1TB WD Black mechanical HDD and replace with a fast nvme drive allowing for some blistering fast transfer speeds. As well perhaps being more relaible for data storage than a mechanical hdd. So the expansion pcie m.2 card would possibly be for just adding an additional nvme ssd and keeping the first one in the mobo m.2 slot.

Aug 30, 2020 · Just buy a Pcie to NVMe adapter, install a ssd nvme on it and plug in PCIe 16 slot. Will be ricognized immediately by Windows 10 and will work with a peak speed of 1600 mb/s.WIth a Ivy Brige CPU that could enable Pcie 3.0 peak speed will beh a lot higher.

Mar 5, 2021 · I had a couple NVMe drives running in a 2009 Mac Pro (running linux, mostly) using a PCIe adapter. PCIe 3.0 native SSD's running in PCIe 2.0 mode, x4 I think but they would have run in x2 just fine as well. So yes, it should work.

Mar 28, 2019 · The motherboard's specs (Asrock Z170M Extreme 4) state that it does in fact support booting from NVMe SSDs. I also use a PCIe adapter card on which I mounted the 660p. My first guess is that your board doesn't support NVMe booting. If you have an Asus board with an i5-3470 in it, that may be old enough that it won't support NVMe booting.

Jan 19, 2017 · You can buy a PCIE x4 adapter for an NVMe M.2 that has a heatsink accessory. I also think that particular item -- KryoM.2 -- is the only one. I'd even think it possible for a DIY heatsink and (if useful) fan strategy for an NVMe M.2. But it would not involve using thermal epoxy on the M.2. That would be stupid, I think . . .

Jul 29, 2012 · In which slot (on P8Z68-V motherborad) did you insert PCIe NVMe adapter? This motherboard has 3 PCIe2.0x16 slot. Blue one is dedicated to Graphic Card (and is populatet in my motherboard), grey one is 8x and for second graphic card (empty) and black is 1x-4x according to BIOS settings and is dedicated to high speed devices.

Nov 26, 2021 · You could buy an M.2 to PCI-E adapter. An NVME M.2 drive uses 4 PCI-E lanes, so the adapter would require an X4, X8, or X16 slot. I want to add an PCIe X4 add-on board with an M2 NVME bootdisk so need to modify. I am reluctant to do this as I read many horror stories how things can go wrong.
