NGC 5746 - Spiral Galaxy in Virgo - TheSkyLive.com
NGC 5746 is a Spiral Galaxy in the Virgo constellation. NGC 5746 is situated close to the celestial equator and, as such, it is at least partly visible from both hemispheres in certain times of the year. Given its B magnitude of 12.3, NGC 5746 is visible with the help of a telescope having an aperture of 8 inches (200mm) or more.

NGC 5746 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the eastern part of the constellation of Virgo. It is a member of the NGC 5746 Group of galaxies, itself one of the Virgo III Groups strung out to the east of the Virgo Supercluster of galaxies.
NGC 5746 - AstroBin
The foreground Milky Way stars nicely frame the galaxy. There are conflicting reports on whether its neighboring galaxy (NGC 5740, just off the image at upper right) is gravitationally interacting with it. It doesn't appear that NGC 5746 is distorted in any way in this image.

Sep 23, 2021 · NGC 5746 is one such massive (∼10 11 M ⊙), nearly edge-on disc galaxy with no signs of a classical bulge (Barentine & Kormendy 2012): in its central regions, it contains a nuclear disc, a bar, and a B/P bulge.

Oct 4, 2014 · NGC 5746 is an edge-on spiral galaxy estimated to be about 95 million light years way. Edge-on galaxies like this provide astronomers with an opportunity to measure particular aspects of spiral galaxies.
NGC 5746: formation history of a massive disc-dominated galaxy
Sep 20, 2021 · We test these ideas with deep MUSE observations of NGC 5746, a massive ( M) edge-on disc galaxy with no classical bulge. We analyse its stellar kinematics and stellar populations, and infer that a massive and extended disc formed very early: 80% of the galaxy's stellar mass formed more than 10 Gyr ago.
