NGC 3486 is an intermediate barred spiral galaxy located about 27.4 [3] million light years away in the constellation of Leo Minor. It has a morphological classification of SAB (r)c, [5] which indicates it is a weakly barred spiral with an inner ring and loosely wound arms. [6] .

Given its visual magnitude of 10.53, NGC 3486 is visible with the help of a telescope having an aperture of 6 inches (150mm) or more.

The galaxy NGC 3486 was discovered on 11 April 1785 by the German-British astronomer William Herschel with his homemade 18.7 inch f/12.8 reflecting telescope in Slough, England.

Calibration using Astro Pixel Processor, LRGB combine in PixInsight, just basic stretches (no noise reduction). Capture site was Bortle 4.

NGC 3486 is a beautiful face-on spiral galaxy in Leo Minor. The spiral arms are very open and show well in images. In an 18" telescope it appears very bright and fairly large, with a bright centre surrounded by very faint haze.
