NGC 3190 is a spiral galaxy with tightly wound arms and lying in the constellation Leo. It was discovered by William Herschel in 1784.

Apr 2, 2025 · The two spiral galaxies in the center of the image are edge-on NGC 3190 with its distinctive, warped dust lanes, and S-shaped NGC 3187. Along with the bright elliptical, NGC 3193 (above and left) they are also known as Arp 316. The spiral toward the lower right corner is NGC 3185, the 4th member of the Hickson group.

Jan 1, 2024 · Spiral NGC 3190, the largest galaxy in Hickson 44, appears more than twice as long as it is wide (4.1′ by 1.6′) and glows at magnitude 11.2. Its central region is bright and long.

NGC 3190, 3193, 3185 and 3187 are the four dominant members of the Hickson Compact Group 44. Many galaxies in Hickson 44, and other compact groups, are either slowly merging or gravitationally pulling each other apart. In particular, NGC 3190 and 3187 show signs of gravitational interaction.
