Certified individuals possess mastery of a broad range of skills related to surgical procedures, aseptic technique and patient care. Because certification is voluntary, the choice to become certified exhibits pride in the profession, the desire to be recognized for mastery of scientific principles, as well as an ongoing commitment to quality patient care.

Surgical Technologists collaborate closely with surgeons and other healthcare professionals throughout surgical procedures. They are responsible for managing surgical instruments, maintaining a sterile field, and preparing the operating room.

The CAAHEP and ABHES websites only list currently accredited programs. To find out if a program was accredited while you were enrolled, call the NBSTSA office at 800-707-0057. There are different types of accreditations, so do not assume that a program is CAAHEP or ABHES accredited just because you hear the word “accredited”.
