
National Board Inspection Code (NBIC)
First published in 1946, the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) is an internationally recognized standard that governs and maintains rules for the installation, inspection, repair, and alteration of inservice pressure equipment. The NBIC is adopted into law by most US and Canadian jurisdictions.
Requests for permission to re-stamp or replace nameplates shall be made to the Jurisdiction in which the pressure-retaining item is installed. Application must be made on the Replacement of stamped Data Form, NB-136 (see NBIC Part 2, 5.3.2).

The National Board offers the Certificate of Authorization and R symbol stamp for the repair and/or alteration of boilers, pressure vessels, and other pressure-retaining items.
