Nov 5, 2014 · Running a VIN check at bmwarchiv.org, my car comes back as saying it has a N52B30M1 - 3,00l (172kW) engine, and has a production date of 18.02.2008. It also says mine is a type NU53. So I've gotten somewhere, but confused somewhat. I guess NU53 does not refer to the N52 of the engine type.

An increase of boost, a downpipe, an intercooler, and even a different fuel all contribute to major changes in power. A friend of mine has a 2011 135i (N55 engine) with all the basic bolt-on goodies and makes somewhere around 380 WHP.

The 51 engine uses a lower compression ratio and accordingly uses a different piston design. The N52KP uses the same design as the N52 engine. The connecting rods on all of the NG engines have been stiffened with a thicker beam on the rod. This design has also been in production since the N52 (6/06). While visiting the parents over the holidays, my dad made an offhand comment to the effect that the VANOS system is fraught with problems. I am assuming his comment was based upon his experience with his 1994 540i.

Dec 12, 2016 · Dumb question, but the owner's manual and my usual internet sources have conflicting information. Is synthetic 5/40 the correct oil for the N52? Some sources indicate 10/60, so I don't want to screw it up.

Jan 5, 2023 · You have to drive the engine at higher rpm to allow them to adjust properly-N52 engines made before 2008 have a flawed design that will not push sufficient oil up to the top of the engine. This can cause a ticking sound.-One solution is to run the engine at a higher RPM for at least 15min. This will help the oil circulate throughout the engine.
