Jul 11, 2018 · I ended up with buying 2 new, OEM position sensors, and 2 new OEM solenoids, reseting vanos adaptation with rheingold, and the problems went away. At least it was cheaper than replacing the 2 VANOS itself.

Jul 30, 2022 · If it has less than 1mm left-right movement, the vanos is working fine, but sometimes it can get stuck, so you set the timing correct but it throws it off/set it wrong because of this. I would also check the crankshaft sensor too, or replace it.

Apr 24, 2019 · Swapping the exhaust solenoid for the inlet solenoid has the same effect so the problem is not the solenoid. This is a fault either with the exhaust VANOS actuator or the oil feed to it. Oil feed is unlikely though as there is no indication of low oil pressure or any sludge that could cause this.

Aug 3, 2022 · Hello guys, i have an e87 116i, n45b16a, on which i’ve replaced the timing chain and the vanos solenoids. The idle is not smooth, and diagnosing with ISTA gives the error code 00287D, DME: Vanos, inlet: actuator movement. Would anybody please be able to provide any feedback as to the cause of the rough idle and possible solutions?
