Dec 31, 2006 · Pete, is the clutch the same as the one on the ML7, i.e. brake shoes in the middle of the outboard countershaft pulley? If so, I repaired mine earlier this year so may be able to help.

Dec 3, 2007 · Anyway, I have recently bought an old Myford ML7. It was in reasonable condition; just requiring rescaling, painting and a few odd bits. It does not have a clutch and it appears to me that they are quite hard to get hold of.

The ML7R was not based on the ML7 but on the Super 7 - the model being created by leaving off the spindle clutch and fitting the less expensive cross and top slides from the ordinary ML7. This clutch is designed to enable screw cutting any pitch of thread with the half-nuts engaged the whole time. The clutch allows the leadscrew to be stopped or reversed and still pick up the thread being cut for another pass.
