The -38 foretold the path the MoPac would take in the future. The rail company would only own a total of six 2,000 hp GP 38 diesels (#572-577, later renumbered #2002-2007), purchased in October 1966 to replace wrecked units.

Oct 28, 2017 · GP38-2 units were preferred power on locals which quite often were assigned only one unit. Since these units would run, quite often, with the long hood leading, they were equipped with plows on both ends.

Jul 18, 2021 · There are a few things I plan on changing: Mopac GP38s & GP38-2s did not have dynamic brakes, so I'll make this one non-DB. I plan to shave off the molded grabs and add wire grabs, and maybe add lift rings. I'll add cab window glazing, sunshades and replace the fans.

Dec 28, 2024 · Missouri Pacific GP38-2's 2017 and 2050 are westbound along the Mississippi River on the New Orleans Public Belt at Jackson Avenue. The transfer run is on its way from Race Street Yard, located just below the bridge in the background; to Avondale Yard, at the west end of the Huey P. Long Bridge.

Grand Trunk Western GP38-2 5725 - was built as MP 884, and later renumbered to MP 2035. The unit operated temporarily as a Helm Lease unit before going to GT for rebuilding to GT 5725.
