Muhammad Umar Mujahid Akhund [a] (1960 – 23 April 2013), commonly known as Mullah Omar, [b] or simply as Muhammad Umar, was an Afghan military leader and cleric who was a co-founder and the first leader of the Taliban from 1994 until his death in 2013.
