Probably there are varieties out there that have solvents but haven’t been polymerized. Depending on the solvent, modified tung oil may not be food-safe like pure tung oil. Note that even products labeled as “pure” tung oil can be polymerized and have different drying and penetrating behavior than pure, unadulterated tung oil.

Oct 19, 2022 · "the mineral oil, which has the look I want" As you've probably already noticed to some degree, you won't get quite the same look that a completely colourless oil gives as you will using tung oil, even if it is a particularly light variety (although less variable than linseed the colour of different pressings of tung still varies quite a bit ...
Tung oil stain resistance - Woodworking Stack Exchange
Made a small plate out of hard maple. Sanded it down to 220 grit sandpaper. Finished with pure tung oil (100%, not the big box stuff) over the course of about a week, giving four coats. Let sit for two weeks inside (under fan, about 70 degrees), until it no longer 'smelled' like tung oil and there was no more seepage.

Re. the poly over undried oil leading to a splotchy finish, I haven't noticed that in practice. I've used varnish (multiple types) over freshly-applied oil many times and never had this problem. Experimentally I've even applied it immediately after the oil, with the same result — …

finishing - Raw/Pure Tung Oil finish - seeping issues
Tung oil does not "dry" by evaporation (like water or organic solvents). It cures by polymerization. The curing process is facilitated by oxygen. Tung oil on the wood surface therefore polymerizes relatively quickly compared to tung oil that has penetrated into the wood, where it is in a relatively oxygen-poor environment.
Will tung oil be enough waterproof / water resistant finish for this ...
Jan 11, 2021 · It takes quite a bit of "Tung" oil to finally create a decent top coat that will handle moisture. Whether you use multi coats of "Tung Oil" or an oil and top coat finish, you can always add a couple coats of Howard's Feed'n wax as a top coat to add extra protection and just plain add a bit of depth to the finish.
