The original Minolta AF 75-300 shows less purple fringing and has a flatter focus plane. I find it a bit better optically than the Canon EF 75-300 III USM. The 7 aperture blades are curved, but they don't form as circular an opening stopped down as the 9 curved blades on the 100-300 APO D.

Feb 23, 2009 · Half way down the page is the silver Minolta 75-300mm f4.5-5.6 D lens. Just under it is the Minolta - AF 75-300 F4.5-5.6 (affectionately known as the Big Beercan). The two lenses are like night & day in IQ. If you can find a BBC, it should cost about $250 for a decent copy.

The 75-300 is a much nicer lens to hold in your hand, its length makes it easy to point at distant objects, and if you ever need to focus it manually it is far superior to any of the modern compact lenses I’ve tried.
