The best engine for a drift car is an engine that goes perfectly into the next car after you’ve crashed the last car. I spent thousands on an SR20 swap and out 25K miles on the car before I totaled it.

Sep 17, 2021 · When I had the swap done I popped in stage 1 Esslinger cams with a base ecutek tune for 91 and 93 octane the shop gave standard. I also went with a wider header and mid-pipe from Goodwin racing. I think without a tune or anything else you'd be looking at 10%+ horses, but more a lot torque.

If you want more power a turbo is a much easier/faster/cheaper (up to a certain power level) route than an engine swap. The stock 1.8 can reliably make upwards of 200whp, more than enough for a car this weight. If you try to do an engine swap with no prior experience the car is going to be apart for many long weekends.

Feb 28, 2018 · I've done a handful of motor swaps in the past and I found the 2.5L swap to be one of the simplest I've done. I dropped the transmission out the bottom and the took the engine out the top however. Swapping the manifolds and accessories over was pretty painless, and the minor modifications needed here and there were straightforward.

May 12, 2020 · Engine swaps never worked out well for me (240sx, 350z). Hard to do while keeping the price down and the overall car reliable. That being said IMO I think you should wait to make that decision until you have the car. If the best one you can find in your budget has a ton of miles, leaks, etc. then maybe an engine swap is your answer.
Has anyone considered EcoBoost swaps? Seems more practical
Aug 13, 2014 · When they where designing the Miata, Mazda decided to cut costs and adapt the engine from the Mazda Familia/Protege/323. This is why hopped up Miatas sometimes have overheating issues, as the thermostat was relocated to the "front" of the engine, instead of against the Miata firewall. Coolant has a hard time circulating to the rear cylinders.
