This is the simplest explanation of metric modulation, I think. It can also be done using off-pulse rhythms (tuplets and so forth), and this is usually the way composers will implement metric modulation.

Jul 27, 2015 · Firstly, the modulation marking: probably the easiest way is to include a marking like this. Much easier to do than trying to add a bunch of extra notes. You can add a metric modulation through the Text > Styles dropdown, and then right clicking will give you a list of suggestions/standard modulations, which you can then edit.
